Law Minister Anisul Huq today said Bangladesh is firmly committed to fight against corruption and thus graft is being curbed in the country day by day.

He came up with the observation while addressing the 10th session of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Implementation Review Group (IRG) in Vienna, capital of Austria, law ministry sources said.

“We also expect that the international community would extend their full support to us, in order to materialize corruption free society which was a dream of our Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who is the liberator of Bangladesh, and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in 1971 for establishing a sovereign and independent state of Bangladesh,” Minister Huq said.

He said, “Article 20 of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh provides that as a general principle, no person shall be able to enjoy unearned incomes meaning that the Constitution being the supreme law of Bangladesh prohibits corruption”.

Minister Anisul is leading the Bangladesh delegation, including senior officials from Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of Ministry of Law, Anti-Corruption Commission, Bangladesh Bank and Bangladesh mission in Vienna at the thee-day conference.

He said, “I would like to mention here that the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947; the Criminal Law amendment Act, 1958; the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 (with latest amendment in 2013); the Right to Information Act, 2009; the Whistle Blower Protection Act, 2011; the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012; the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Act, 2012; the Extradition Act, 1974; the Public Procurement Act, 2006 and the Rules made thereunder; the Anti-terrorism Act, 2009; the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Act, 2009 etc. are major legal instruments in Bangladesh towards implementation of UNCAC provisions”.

“Apart from this, Bangladesh has established the National Human Rights Commission and the Information Commission. Bangladesh has also adopted the National Integrity Strategy (NIS) by the Cabinet Division to build up a golden prosperous corruption free society,” Anisul said.

“Corruption Prevention Committees have been formed by the Anti-Corruption Commission in 9 Metropolitan Cities, 62 Districts and 421 Upazillas (local Govt. unit) with a view to creating integrity and honesty among members of the society by massive awareness programs. ‘Honesty & Integrity Units’ have been set up in Schools, Colleges and other educational institutions all over the country”, the law minister added.

Bangladesh committed to curb corruption: Minister
Brother Minister, you forgot to tell us which measures you will take to curb corruption in the country and how many decades will you take to accomplish any tangible results. How long will you guys be talking sweet and big instead of accomplishing anything good?

However, after saying this, I remember the posts @Homo Sapiens and @Bilal9 were sending in some other thread to claim that corruption is the sole responsible factor for the present development of this country. Brother Minister, how come you are talking opposite to what they claim? Are not you a little mistaken?

What a pathetic liar you are ! Show me any post of mine where I claimed 'corruption is responsible factor for development'?

You have no integrity as a person. Why do you deny your past comments? Were not you quarreling with me on the merits of corruption? You find out your own old posts. It is not only you but most of BD educated people are the gainer of corruption. That is why you guys are so fond of supporting it. After all, you are a great patriot!!

But, are you a girl or a boy? Girls deny everything in certain situations, not the boys. It is time you straighten your thinking and do not swing like a pendulum.

Hahahahahahhahahahahahaha
BD is getting more corrupt.
Even a light post belonging to the govt is rich with corruption money. There is a true story about a driver in a govt office like WASA. He owns two apartment blocks in Dhaka and comes to WASA office in his own car driven by his personal valet.

This is corruption Golden Bangladesh style.

Why I will go through the trouble of digging up my old posts to find out whether I have supported corruption or not? You have accused me something which I deny, it is your responsibility to establish your accusation, otherwise your accusation will not be accepted and you will be proved as a liar. Is not it simple ?

I have a very very long memory especially of those posts that were thrown by others to insult me for suggesting things that are good for the country. Why do not you remember your own posts? Is it not also true that you joined discussions vigorously with that Noakhailla @Bila9 to oust me from this sub-forum? How heinously you two grouped together calling me Sanghi in many of your posts.

You two reflect the typical mindset of BD people. This is why I say with or without Socrates or Confucius, BD people lack humility, integrity, honesty or sincerity in their approach. A good philosophy/thinking seems to be nothing but a fag unsuitable for the feeble-minded people of BD. People are not sincere even to their country and that is the reason it remains shamefully an LDC 3/4th of a century after 1947.

This insincerity is truly reflected in the statement made by the BD minister in this international forum. The very next morning he will forget what he said. Bloody insincere group of people!!!

We are not in a business to be liked by you. You can bark all you want, but we will go ahead in our own ways. We do not need any advice or whining from an ungrateful traitor like you.
