B-52 Stratofotress: We Make Nightmares

I took these photos in Darwin; b52 is mamoth... far out couldn't fit both wings in my camera.. it was a confined place so this is the best i could take.

its definetly a one tough cookie!!!!!!!

its vertical stabilizer was shredded off from turbulance but it still landed safely!!

Awesome set of pics, VCheng!! Thanks for sharing them. The size and complexity of these monsters is so much more obvious up close, which is one of the reasons that modern strategic bombers aren't common, and are limited pretty much to the USA and Russia. That, and militarily - at least in the nuclear deterrent sense - they have been supplanted by missiles.

Note the tail gun - originally I think it was dual (or maybe quad) .50 caliber guns, then changed to 20mm cannon, and then removed entirely. One MiG-21 was shot down by a B-52 in Vietnam IIRC.

The first time I saw a B-52, it was at RAF Lakenheath, and I cannot even begin to tell you how a low fly by with the bays open looked and felt like.
