Defence Minister Stephen Smith has assured India that Australian uranium will not be sold to neighbouring Pakistan.

'Pakistan does not have the same record so far as proliferation is concerned,' he told ABC Television on Thursday, following a meeting with Indian government officials in New Delhi.

A deal securing uranium exports will be negotiated with India in early 2012, ending a 20-year ban.

New Delhi will have to agree to a range of safeguards before shipments begin.

Mr Smith said he had assured Indian officials the new export policy did not extend to Pakistan.

Pakistan had not voluntarily placed itself under the authority of the International Atomic Energy Agency or the Nuclear Suppliers Group, he said.

No problems. We have got our own suppliers and enough Uranium/Plutonium to give nightmares to the customers of Australian nukes.

Why does Pakistan need Uranium? It's got enough already. Check out the fact that Pakistan has the fastest growing nuke arsenal in the world with 150 to 200 nukes - and counting!

If only some of that Uranium was used for generating nuclear power instead of nuclear weapons, there would have been no energy crisis in Pakistan! But then, it's obsession with its arch enemy India which is considered an existential threat to its very existence is what drives it headlong into building a nuclear arsenal costing billions of dollars that will eventually never be used!

Ozis need not give us assurance, they can sell to whom ever they think meet their standard of being their customer for Fisile material and tech transfer.
This is like OZ's unnecessaryly provoking the Pakistanis over their nationalism
