LONDON: The military offensive mounted by Britain, France and the United States against the Gaddafi regime in Libya has resulted in bombs and shelling near the Indian embassy in Tripoli, according to the Indian envoy there.

However, no damage has been caused to the chancery building or the embassy comples, said Indian ambassador M Manimekalai, who spoke to TOI on the phone.

Manimekalai said civilians had been killed in the bombing by air force planes and missile attacks from naval vessels in the Mediterranean. She received confirmation of this from Indian nurses working in hospitals in capital Tripoli.

Manimekalai, however, stated she had not received any reports of deaths among Indians still in Libya.

A British Royal Air Force Tornado squadron, in fact, aborted its mission at the last minute on Sunday after it realized the targets it had selected would cause civilian casualties.

Does anyone know what kind of security Indian embassies around the world have? I.e who protects them, I know that ITBP commandos protect the embassies/consulates in Afghanistan but do they provide cover to ALL embassies in the world or just Afghanistan? Or does India have a de facto orginization in charge of embassy security globally? For instance ALL US embassies worldwide are protected by Marine Security Guards:

These are Marines who undergo further intensive training to operate in these varied conditions and are responsable for the protection of the embassy and all secret documents held within it. Note they are NOT responsible for the protection of the ambassador and his family this is handled by the state department's Diplomatic Security Service (similar in appearance and training to the USS (US president's bodyguards):

Yes we have but not against missiles.

These attacks are condemnable & NATO forces must not go out from particular lines where innocent people will kill or suffered. Attacks near foreign embassies means no boundaries of attack.

No that's not what i'm trying to say, I was just wondering if there was any kind of specific force in charge of protecting Indian embassies from all forms of attack (not necessarily cruise missiles but small arms, terrorists etc) LIKE the Marine Security Guards?
