Its actually derived from the pro-abolitionist song "John Brown's Body" which was written to honor the abolitionist John Brown who died rebelling against the US. It then became the song "battle hymn of the republic"Are you sure this is their own regimental songs, sounds like a knock off of "Blood on the Risers", a US WW2 paratrooper song. I've got nothing against them using a derivative of the song to keep morale up but claiming it to be a regimental song is just wrong.
I stand corrected. Its actually derived from the pro-abolitionist song "John Brown's Body" which was written to honor the abolitionist John Brown who died rebelling against the US. It then became the song "battle hymn of the republic"
Later, the song made it to Europe, and there are many other variations of the song. The Assam Regiment song dates back to the British era and commemorates a battle with invading Japanese forces

Funny how interconnected the world really is. In less than a century, a song written to honor a relatively obscure figure in the US deep South has now made it to places from Ireland to NE India to the PhillipinesI stand corrected.![]()
