Assad Warns to Set Fire on Middle-East in Case of US Attack

I still don't get the logical connection between -> Intervention in Syria, and a missile attack on Tel Aviv.

So regardless of who intervenes in Syria... Tel Aviv is going to get it?

well they (and Chinese) did use Veto power to avert sanctions on Syria

a move i commend.....sanctions only aim to punish an entire country. We saw how much results they brought about in Iraq in 1990s! (sarcasm)

Syria is a difficult case b/c on one hand, we must recognize that this is an internal matter; but on the other hand, when you're dealing with over 2,500 deaths on mostly unarmed protestors --situation where everyday 25-50 people are gunned down by non-uniformed security personnel--one must ask for how much longer can we sit on the sidelines without doing anything. . .

i'm in close touch with a friend in Damascus -- the only thing the protestors have in common is that they want Assad out. As is the case in Egypt, there is some polarization on "best way forward" (i.e. debate amongst salafist rightists, moderate Islamist, secularist, centrists, socialists, etc.)

Those regimes have oppressed their own ppl, in case of syria it was only one party system. It is quite natural all the factions of the public unite just to throw this regim but now they have setup some kind of council and according to them 80 percent of opposition is there

I don't think salfies have any weight in syria but yes the moderate brotherhood is there and very strong

Attacking tel aviv is a black mailing tactics he could not respond when israeli jets flew over his palace and not when they bombed the so called reactor site in deir zor if i m not wrong. His coward army can only kill unarmed persons only.

Waleykum Salaam.

I agree with your assesment. Syria is lucky to have a reasonably literate and educated population; I don't think they want to go down the Iraqi path.

we will see partisanship, we will see political divisions.....but if they can gradually switch to a democratic system in which there is a voted in party and an opposition with a voice, there ought not to be problems. Syria is a unique country because of a small handful of different ethnic groups and sects (you have Sunnis, Allawites, Shiias, Maronites, Druze, etc.). It will be important that all these groups have representation.

Syrian peoples are an ancient civilization; it's a unique and interesting country the more one reads about it. It will be interesting to see how countries like Egypt and Syria move forward from this very critical juncture in their history.

Brother there r many hadeeths about the ppl of sham from our Prophet pbuh it is a blessed land and its ppl,

but as long as this regime is there nothing is gonna happen it has to go i might add before this party ba'th take charge they had a good democracy rule and the prime minister was a chrisitan if i m not wrong.

it would be better if they sanctioned the armed forces of Syria. isn't it what they do in Iran? sanctioning the defence sector in Iran. it would work in Syria. and i dont think the Russians and Chinese would mind, since it doesn't affect the civil people... like in Iraq in the 90's
