Army Special forces to get dedicated Helicopter Squadren

I found this video (below) on NDTV from 2006 but have heard nothing more about it. Did this come into reality? Is this squadren operating today? does anyone have info on this sqd, what do they fly, where are they based etc...??

It would make sense. You either have a dedicated sqn for the Special Forces or co-locate the assets with the Special Forces. This is the model used in the United States as well as here in Pakistan. The requirements for SF are as such that you cannot have them sitting an waiting for Army Aviation or the Air Force provide them air assets as and when available. When the SF need air assets, they should have them.

Pakistan has an entire Air Assault Sqn dedicated to the SF. They are co-located at a combined Army aviation and SF base. Nothing obsolete about it.

For Airborne missions, another SF base is in very close proximity to a major PAF base which plays host to medium lift platforms of the PAF.

here topic is IA special force is getting heli support... and it is prety old news..
but as far as i know our SF dont have any dedicated heli support but they do have close support from Airforce/aviation corps

Just to clarify for all. Firstly Blain has rightly stated the need for SF to have its own dedicated Air Wing. As far as India is concerned. The Army SF will use the new Chinooks and Hercules which will arrive from early next year as dedicated transports. The Navy SF already has dedicated Seaking Helos since a decade. For long distance deployment the Army SF Hercules will be used.
