India earlier this year June in fact ordered the 2nd batch of Arjun main tanks after a massively long develpment history of 30 years.

The 58 tonne heavey tank will now field 5 regiments with 248 tanks by 2015 And the mk2 is also being developed with upto 500 Arjuns arriving by 2020.

The First 124 have entered service now

There seem to be a miscoception that the ARJUN was a failed project but to the contrary it beat the NEW INDIAN FRONTLINE T90 in trials in May this year easily

The tank injcludes the ability to fire missles and enjoys a Western style design and conmfort with very heavey KACHEN ARMOUR israeli elbit battle management system and german engines.

AT $4M EACH IT COSTS 30% more than the lighter T90 tanks that india is building under license

IT SEEMS much like india,s maligned LCA tejas programme which is also on the verge of IOC in December next month that Arjun too has finally come of age
