AP to get two defence R&D units soon

GUNTUR: Minister of state for defence M M Pallam Raju said on Sunday that two units of defence research would come up in Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad shortly. Arms manufacturing depots would also form part of these new units.

He said the government had cleared a missile project for naval forces, which would be commissioned by September this year. He said that with the new project in place, the Indian Navy would be one of few forces in the world to possess such technology.

Most probably, others than that nothing there to think about. Or K-4/K-15 SLBMs! I will be happy if IN goes for ship based Shaurya missile on the Kolkata class.

Yeah even I thought SLBM when he said 'India would be one of the few countries in the world to possess such technology.'
But in retrospect if it was an SLBM manufacturing unit I doubt he'd say it in open press.

Its open now, the govt revealed that India have SLBMs. Will be happy though if it is something newer!

I know the fact we have them is open. But openly proclaiming 'Idhar humara SLBM factory hai' is stupidity na?

Its also known fact! Hyderabad based BDL makes all the missiles for Indian armed forces including Agni series.

Don't get your hopes up. In India most projects are openly known about. So if there were such a project we'd have known.
(Although this theory of mine was proven wrong when we heard about K4 SLBM)
And btw the SM3 variant sold to countries doesn't have ASAT capability. It has to be modified specifically for the purpose.
