The United States and China have been battling on trade for more than a year now. The tariffs started slowly. In the first few months of the war, President Donald Trump placed tariffs on less than 3% of Chinese imports, but by December 15 the president plans to hit nearly everything the U.S. imports from China.

Despite rising tensions in recent months, Trump has said he wants a trade deal before his reelection bid in 2020. He has also insinuated that Beijing may be holding out for a Democratic candidate. In a speech in Baltimore Thursday night, the president mocked Democratic presidential candidate and former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden.

"Whoa boy. He’s a furious kind of a guy. Great guy. [Chinese President Xi Jinping is] dying to see...he wants Sleepy Joe,” Trump said, referring to Biden. “Could you imagine those two guys in a room...”

But despite Trump’s comments, former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci thinks China is actually hoping for a Trump win in the 2020 presidential.

“You have an orange rag doll, Donald J. Trump, and you have a Doberman pinscher, China, shaking the rag doll,” Scaramucci said on Yahoo Finance’s On the Move. “And then what they're going to do in a couple months, they're going to throw that rag doll into the corner, and they're going to cut a deal with him because they absolutely want Trump to be reelected.”

So why does China want Trump to remain president of the U.S.? Trump is damaging the U.S. and undermining the country’s global standing, according to Scaramucci.

Trump is ‘burying the U.S.’
Trump has repeatedly said China wants a deal with the U.S. On Thursday, he said he preferred a to get a “whole deal” with China but did not rule out the possibility of an interim deal.

Earlier this month, Trump labeled China “the enemy” and just a few days later he claimed China officials had called him in a pursuit of a trade deal, but China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied any calls.

“He is disrupting the global alliance and bringing down the international trading system. And he is hurting our hard and soft power and our standing,” Scaramucci said. “Literally, the way he acts is a full-blown embarrassment on the global stage. He’s stumbling and bumbling along. The Chinese is laughing. This guy's burying the U.S.”

Seriously, Trade war hurts now but in long run is good for better of China. Huawei looks even stronger with this attack from US. Kirin 990 chips and ascend 910 comes out and so as more 5G tech/AI from Huawei.

Trump is actually helping China. He attack all those sectors where China can be self sufficient but just not willing to fully embrace all China tech like semi-conductor. Ask yourself, why US Trump never ban Leap-X engine for C919 project?

Because it is 50% owned by French Safran. So Macron enters the picture.
They can ban GE engine for ARJ-21 too but never. Trump can over right any partnership as US is a bigger contributor in tech for aeroengine.

Its French that needs US tech more than US needs French.

Seems China even more
Trumps is helping China. Can you see that? He is ruining US , trade war dont benefit US but China. His tech ban is all on the wrong things.

Trump is speeding up China domination of tech world. His sanction hit on things that shouldnt and he still own an empire in China especially property and still buying made in China product despite asking for made in USA. President Xi claim Trumps is a good friend of China and roll out red carpet for him on his visit.

Trump heed the order from Xi and is paving way for his future lavish retirement in China.

Wow you are completely blind. You have the situation backwards. Trump doesn’t care whether Chinese companies do good or bad or become self reliant.

In terms of reliance he wants US manufacturing not relying on China because if China pulls the plug due to a war or something he doesn’t want the US caught in a huge manufacturing gap dilemma (it certainly isn’t a tech shortcoming like you guys). Not the other way around. Whether your companies do good or bad is not the main problem.

The trade war is simply highlighting which industries would be affected. Which companies need to diversify their manufacturing locations so if things did hit the fan they wouldn’t be stopped cold. Raising tariffs to some crazy number is a great idea to find the holes.

Plus it’s time we moved on from a China. There’s been “Made in Taiwan” then “Made in Japan” then “Made in China”. Time to move on to the next country...it’s obviously been done before.

BTW we have so many pollution laws that even if robots were doing 100% of the work many plants can’t operate here. For many companies overseas is the ONLY option.

One of trump main criteria in trade war with China is to stop 2025 made in China. C919 and engine making are part of China plan to stop rely on Boeing. If succeed, Boeing projected profit will slip further. I think you shall know that. Since US knows it why not stopping it? Trump target those area that manufacture very low end products which will never come back to US. While high end like semi-con is stop late to attack on China. China already start fabricate 14nm wafer and NAND flash also goes into production. In terms of chips design, Huawei has demonstrated. The last thing US going to hit China hard will be aero engine which Trump failed to tackle. Of cos , Trump is helping China. The chosen one by Xi to ruin US and help China. Thank you Trump :enjoy:

Again what does this have to do with US manufacturing security? If China cuts off the US why would we care about your planes/engines? We certainly aren't going to be buying them in return. If you want to build your own planes and engines like the Russians that's perfectly fine too. Boeing has been happily selling commercial planes since the 1950's. Russia and Europe have been happily building/selling planes too. Russia has a nice market niche in countries that can't afford Boeing/Airbus planes. If anything the Russians should be more worried about losing marketshare than the US/Airbus.

Samsung also makes flash memory. It's not like the US has a monopoly on that either.

Not sure why you think everything just affects the US. Why aren't you saying Airbus should be unhappy or Samsung should be unhappy? Why didn't Airbus tackle China? Why didn't Samsung tackle China? Why is it just the US???

Why would Airbus tackle China when they have no intend to fight trade war like US? It is US Trump that wants to stop made in China 2025 and it's Trump that wants trade war, not Europe or Russia. You just avoid my topic by side tracking...

Micron has a huge market for NAND memory. If China has its capacity, it will hurt micron badly.

Trump is Trojan horse in US that in cahoots with China. He is destroying US and you American still think he is doing US a favour?

I still don't understand your logic on why Boeing would be more affected than Airbus with China's new plane. You guys were building it long before Trump was elected so why are suddenly thinking the trade war was some important turning point?

I don't think Micron should be the biggest worrier over NAND. Shouldn't Samsung be more? Why do you think Micron is the only one who would be affected? Shouldn't we be having some tech trade war with Korea first?? They've been ahead for at least a decade. Why should we skip over them and target you suddenly? Maybe Korea would be more likely having the NAND war with you not the US.
