By 2100, maybe Unions will be more important than individual countries. Its likely that the most powerful entities by 2100 will be European Union or East Asian Union. I think in future countries will merge together to form mega-countries.

I see it going the other direction. Different countries fragmenting and central governments getting weaker. Also non-state actors becoming more of a menace.

I think weaker societies will disintegrate while stronger societies will integrate. Power on the global stage of a country is related to how much of the global economy that country represents. So i think smaller economies will merge to create bigger economies and have more influence on the world stage.

How do you rate the possibility of China fragmenting? Like Tibet , Hong Kong etc challenging Chinese central government, if the economic rise does not continue.

George Friedman/Stratfor predicted China's collapse in 1996. And then when that didn't happen, he predicted it again in 2006. And when that didn't happen he kinda shut up about China and started predicting America's transition from hyperpowerdom to super duper hyperpowerdom (despite all evidence pointing to Asia's rise). He also predicts that Japan (not China or India) will become the next superpower and will do a Pearl Harbor 2 on America.

If the guy can't even forecast 8 years down the road correctly, he has no business forecasting 50 years down the road. I personally think he's suffering from dementia and thinks it's still 1988 but no one's told him yet.
