you are generally correct... that has to do with modern films and television bombarding south asians with mainstream western ideal of female beauty... but also there is the traditional anti-female attitudes here combined with launda-baazi culture of south asian villages which inspired film song lyrics like "patali kamar hai, tirchi nazar hai" which started the cycle again.

but there certainly is the culture of mujra's and "mallu films" where the ladies are quite... voluptuous...and even in mainstream west, nigella lawson became well-known more because of her full-figure and flirty talks...

but believe me, it is most painful to me to accidentally see photos of muscular bipasha basu or read ridiculous statements of females who want to weigh 45 kilograms... yes, 45 kilograms... the weight of some 15 year old male... the hindi film actress, perizaad zorabian, said that once... it became stuck in my mind... what a statement to make

you know, the female responsible for creating all the lost female figures in india, vandana luthra, was given a national award in india... that shows the acceptance and promotion of that ridiculous concept of "slimming centers".

one of the few female ramp fashion models to look feminine has been aishwarya rai... you will agree, i think... and i like her, not least because she looks like a certain lady who's the object of my affections...
