America’s Indian Rebuff

No, it means China has won a strategic victory without even fighting one battle. Just turned India from hostile to neutral country. It's hard for USA and India relations to ever get back to 2004-2008 levels. Instead, they will be like 2003. This is very favorable to China because it makes Pakistan more easily defensible if the two countries on the two sides don't get along enough to wage a war together.

Now it becomes much easier to for China, Pakistan, Russia and Central Asia countries to do military exercises in all directions surrounding Afghanistan. This means we can easily defeat USA in Afghanistan and project power all the way through Iran (another ally) and into Persian Gulf.

A Chinese naval base in the Persian Gulf with aircraft carrier battle group by 2020 should be China's next strategic goal!

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't Russia have a strategic partnership with India? They also happen to be allies.

Although not an ally, India has good relations with Iran as well. Iran's regime appears to be a bit unstable to be honest.

Why does the United States need India?

To answer your question I'd have to write a lot which I'm certainly in no mood of right now.

As an aside, I'd like to ask you one thing,

How do you see your relationship potential, as in profitability to you, with a country where you are most popular in the world outside your own country?

India has maintained relations with everybody and every body sees India and a trustfull ally or partner or friend... India has a very good global image....

China is our trusted and all weather friend i dont know how much US be the same to you or you will be the same for US if you can offer the same. and honestly so far Pakistan has not offered anything to China.

Exactly you might be friends but you're more of a burden than friends.

lolzzz no insurgencies in India???? you need to check if NE is there or not? Naxals/Maoists/ Nagas, Bodos and what not. and no power cuts??? are sure ? please check your facts. and surely NO drone attacks no terrorism because you are not in the region that leads to CARs.

Naxals/Maoists? lool really? They want India to be a communist, they're not separation groups!! And not ALL Nagas and Bodos want to separate. Just like your Balwaristan, Pashtunistan, Sindhudesh, Waziristan. :)

You're in media you should know all these. :P

Over exaggeration is not good for health
Exaggeration is already over done. so I can't over do it. :D [and you call yourself a journalist.]

So far the Indians say the have the money and they can buy US. US is seller and India is the buyer and Indians think this thing has given them the biggest edge over US enough to bully it even and whenever they want.

now how true it is that one has to wait and see

We can BUY US??!! loooool Who said that? Can you like quote his/her post? And bully US? You mean bully United States of America??!! lmao! Even your best friend China can't do it let alone India.

So as an Ally what can India offer to US?

US has already faced Indian blackmailing viz a viz the deal mentioned in the article. And we hear the bharatis saying on this very forum that US is now bowing to Indian policy against Pakistan

Call it whatever you will; either in hope or frustration. But the fact of the matter is (if you read the article carefully above) that India's thinking simply was: ‘ the Indian mindset was that this deal wasn’t about cementing relationships, it was about getting the best deal. The Indian view is that the Americans should have offered better aircraft.’. India was simply looking out for her best interests. And has been doing so very consistently. Whether it was putting in stringent liability clauses around the 123 Agreement or refusing to sign CISMOA. And goes back into history. Remember India steadfastly refused to join any military alliance unlike some other countries. Now such a steadily consistent stand-point may seem like an alien concept to some esteemed members here.So it is extremely amusing that someone sees Indian blackmailing ; while the Americans are quiet (when they are the ones who should be carping). At the most they will sulk for some time. But the USA seems to have some strange champions now!

Contrary to what some here may like to believe; India will chart out a relationship with the USA that will be consistent with her own interests while accomodating USA to the extent possible . Because both countries know very well that the era of Blocs is over. This is the age of "working relationships and adjustments". Of course the USA has had an "unique" relationship with another country in the region. But that kind of relationship is certainly NOT going to be the template of the Indo-US relationship. The Indian Govt. will spare no efforts to make that clear. And the US will adjust to that reality, however it is unused to this situation in South Asia. India pulled that off in the 1960s and 1970s when she was far more vulnerable; now there is much lesser incentive to alter that line of action.

That is the reality.

Govt is trying hard to show that this deal is transparent, based on technical evaluation and not based on strategic gain by allying with somebody.
There is no issue of India bullying US, rather it chose not to succumb to US hard sell. In any case it would have been very difficult for this govt to go for US planes without making huge controversy.

How not buying US aircraft is rebuff I dont understand. Will they give annual maintenance contract for software and hardware of their govt departments to Indian IT cos to prove their friendship. How about preferential treatment to Indian rice, cotton etc.

This was an open and transparent competition, where all friendly countries participated and US lost.
There are so many other deals which were given to US companies without any competition.

If you read the news about rejecting US aircraft then it did carry the main reason where India said US should end its relation and limit the defence cooperation with Pakistan. so all in all it was about providing better jets which US btw can if US needs money it will sell you
