Let me play the devil’s advocate here……It’s not only about America’s double standards but more importantly, why is Pakistan fighting America’s war?

Why has the U.S suddenly turned the screws on Pakistan by blaming it of supporting the Taliban (Haqqani) because of the bombing of its embassy that injured dozens of U.S. soldiers and blamed it on the Haqqanis who they say is a veritable arm of the ISI? All this without a shred of evidence!

Now the question is: Who created the Taliban in Afghanistan and why? The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). It worked in tandem with Pakistan’s ISI to create it.

"I warned the CIA that we were creating a monster," Selig Harrison from the Woodrow Wilson International Centre for Scholars said at a conference on Terrorism and Regional Security: Managing the Challenges in Asia. "The CIA made a historic mistake in encouraging Islamic groups from all over the world to come to Afghanistan. The US provided $3 billion for building up these Islamic groups. They told me these people were fanatical, and the more fierce they were the more fiercely they would fight the Soviets. I warned them (CIA) that we were creating a monster."

Although the CIA claimed that the purpose was to attack military targets, mujahideen trained in these techniques, and using chemical and electronic-delay bomb timers supplied by the U.S., carried out numerous car bombings and assassination attacks in Kabul itself.

Well, it seems that suddenly America has woken up to this ‘monster’ it had created in the first place as its interests are being badly hurt in Afghanistan. It now asks Pakistan to go after the Taliban (Haqqani/Mullah Omar) because these groups have turned against the U.S. Yes, against America’s supreme national and security interests. Never mind if it had used these very groups to undermine the then Soviet Union’s national interests!

Does ‘national interest’ apply only to America?

The point is why should the Pakistan Army go after the Haqqanis? They are not hurting Pakistan in any way. They are also Pakistan’s best bet for forming a Pakistan-friendly government in Kabul. It serves Pakistan’s national interest to do so.

If Pakistan launches an offensive against the Haqqanis, the backlash could be devastating, not only resulting in more bloodshed on Pakistani streets but also the loss of a bargaining chip in Afghanistan. But America thinks that it’s own national interest is more important than Pakistan’s which means that Pakistan should bend over backwards to fight not Pakistan’s but America’s war – the so called ‘war on terror’! Are they not aware that once they withdraw from Afghanistan, Pakistan will be left to hold the baby? As it is, Pakistan’s hands are full, what with the TTP creating mayhem with dozens of innocent men, women and children being killed on the streets on an almost daily basis.

In other words, why is Pakistan fighting America’s war? Why is it allowing the use of its bases for drone attacks? Why is it allowing CIA a free run especially in the AFPAK region for humint to aid such attacks including operations by U.S. Special Forces? Is it because of the billions of dollars it is getting by way of aid? Or is it the fear of being ‘bombed back into the stone age’ as Bush had once threatened?

If Pakistan had learned to stand on its own feet by emerging as an independent economic power in its own right instead of relying on American aid and largesse since 1947, America could not have browbeaten Pakistan to follow its diktats as it is being forced to do so at this critical juncture. It is blackmail by America and for Pakistan there seems to be no way out unless it has the courage to call America’s bluff.

The U.S. only recognizes power. China for example, who've got them collared. We need more countries like it who have the courage to thumb their nose at them! China is an impediment for their grand design of establishing their New World Order.

well, if you would have said 6 or even 5 years ago it was US's war, i would have agreed, but right now, it is very much the Pakistani war.

But yeah, the US did create a monster.

A year ago my thoughts were same as urs but now i believe that this ain't our war, its just an illusion created by Pakistani management that it is our. For a proof take the xample of American double standard, They are pushing pakistan to strike on FATA but on the other hand they are asking taliban to resolve all disputes through dialogues so that they can take their sorry ***** with dignity . Now this is the hypocrisy at its best.
