Algerian Army kills 22 terrorists

ALGIERS, Algeria: The Algerian army killed 22 armed militants in an operation Tuesday some 100 kilometres (60 miles) east of the capital, the defence ministry said.

It said automatic weapons, ammunition and other weaponry were seized in the “anti-terrorist” operation in the Ferkioua area of Bouira province.

Militant-linked violence rocked the North African country in the 1990s but has since waned, although armed groups remain active in central and eastern Algeriawhere they mount attacks on security forces.

The army said it has now killed 56 armed militants since the start of the year.

Looks like someone forgot how their military got raped in 1991-2002 by militants and then your military surrendered to the militants and made a "peace treaty" with them lol, death toll reached 200,000 while the militants were about 40,000 only, yeah your military didn't kill civilians lol, look at the difference between the Algerian military coup against the Islamists in 1992, and the Egyptian military coup against the Islamists in 2013, look at the difference of results and deaths between the 2 incidents then talk about who's military is better at controlling insurgency and avoiding civilian casualties lol

Would you say Algeria had a "proper" army back then or compare them to Egypt before?

They were at war with the French for half a century then barely rested and a civil war. Both were divastated and plagued with instability which took time to recover the country.

Whereas, Egyptian army has been in control for a long time and stable for a century because they were a British protectorate so I don't think they should be comparable in the 50s-2000s.

Anyway, I don't see any difference when it comes to terrorism. Egyptian army is having a hard time in Sinai and Algeria in the Northern borders, another reason for sending 50k.

Bullshit! you are still reporting news from the same papers that were pushing for an Islamic states, like they are pushing right now for Syria. You can't compare Egypt of 2011 with the Algerian case. Algeria suffered the same conditions that Syria is going through, with the same actors and with the same embargo, in a time where our main arm supplier was in disarray...If Egypt is facing her MB's under the same conditions, she would have collapsed. Even now, with all the help she is getting from the west and from the GCC, she is still suffocating. 200,000 death and countless displaced, Syria has millions displace and the same number killed, Iraq is suffering the same fate as well as Yemen. False..Al masri el youm , is pro Egyptian government and they have a history of embellishing things...Algeria doen't have that kind of troops on the Lybian border and there no troop reinforcement..But there is a lot of activity in both side border, with heavy armements smuggling...There isn't one day that passes without a smugglers arrest.. It seems that they are probing the border defence system.
