Dhaka, June 11 (UNB) - Ruling Awami League has urged the opposition BNP to decide through dialogue over the system under which next parliamentary election will be held. Addressing a press briefing at the Awami League President’s Dhanmondi office on Saturday afternoon, Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said the system under which the next parliamentary polls would be held has to be settled on the basis of national consensus. “Let us work out the system under which the next parliamentary election will be held,” he said, adding that the doors are still open for BNP to take part in working out the issue of caretaker government.

Ashraful also urged the opposition to come to parliament instead of enforcing “illogical” hartal. “Please come to parliament. This is the only place for holding discussions and placing your demands,” he said. Replying to a question about BNP’s demand to the government for withdrawal of cases against Khaleda Zia, the AL general secretary said the opposition leader should come to parliament to place this demand. He, however, said that the cases which were not filed by the present government cannot be withdrawn. “Law will take its own course.” Ashraful said Khaleda Zia would one day have to agree to figure out the caretaker government issue through discussion in parliament. She said: “In the past Khaleda Zia used to say no to voter lists with photographs and transparent ballot boxes. But, later she had to accept both. This time also she would agree to accept the reality.”

The AL general secretary regretted that Khaleda Zia is saying no to everything - dialogue with the Election Commission and Electronic Voting.
“Still there are two and half years left of the present government. Please pay heed to the calls of our Prime Minister and return to the parliament,” he said. Labeling the BNP-called hartals as unnecessary, Ashraful said the caretaker government system will not be cancelled on the basis of the report by the parliamentary special committee.

“The committee has only placed its report in parliament for discussion by the lawmakers. The report will be sent to the parliamentary standing committee on Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry. It may even be sent to the cabinet.” The AL spokesperson said: “It will take a long time to enact law on the caretaker issue. But BNP has called hartals just after the primary process.”

He said the people do not support hartal. “You can call hartal when you’ve no other way. But all the ways are open. Why are you causing sufferings to mass people through enforcing hartal?” Ashraful asked the opposition party.

Today, I talked with my brother in Faridpur. He reported a full Hartal in that Town. This will continue until tomorrow evening. This woman PM of Bangladesh, who is surrounded by stupid Advisors like Suranjit Sengupta, always tries to put cart before the horses. She is always confrontational in the domestic politics and tries to gain such unattainable things on the people that they revolt against AL govt.

She tried to erase Bismillah, then she tried to change the Islamic concept of our society by trying to impose equal rights to property for sons and daughters, all in the name of women's emancipation. AL itself is the greatest enemy of itself. It tries something that backfires on its face. It gives issues to the opposition very stupidly. I wonder, how a Supreme Court recommendation about Caretaker Govt (CTG) can supersede the authority of a sovereign Parliament?

Thing is, AL wants to steal the next election by holding it under itself. It wants to stage an election fraud. But, this is an impossible task. This ill effort is but another step forward for AL to lose the election to be held certainly under a CTG. AL will be forced to retain the CTG system.

Initially I was very hopeful about the AL admin.

But these guys moved away from the mandate to build the nation.

I actually applaud BNP for not calling Hartal about Zia Airport, Khaleda Zia House, and on all other kinds of stupid amendment. But the CTG must be protected at all cost if we are to remain a democratic country.

AL failed in January, 1975 when they killed Democracy and went for dictatorship. Mujib was selected to be the President till 1980 after abolishing the multi-party election system. The only legal party was BAKSAL, all other political parties were declared illegal by Mujib.

This AL people should not be trusted with the election mechanism.

hey. . Kader Siddique called for mid term election and said - if Awamileague wins he will wear sharee . . . . !!!
