Again India arrests Sri Lankan Fisherman

Indian Coast Guard Ship Sarang on Saturday apprehended four Sri Lankan fishing boats with 21 fishermen for illegally fishing in Indian waters under the Maritime Zones of India Act 1981 (MZI Act 1981).

An official press release issued on Sunday said the ICGS Sarang, an advanced offshore patrol vessel, intercepted the boats that were engaged in illegal fishing very close to the Indian coast. It was found that these boats were carrying five tonnes of fish onboard.

The boats – Kalani, Chejana-02, Niranjana and Priyan-04 – which had sailed from Dondra in Sri Lanka were apprehended south west of Kakinada.

This is the seventh time Sri Lankan fishing vessels have been apprehended by Coast Guard Region (East) in 2011. During this year, a total of 15 boats with 74 crew and 13,900 kg of fish catch had been caught, the release said.

India has a right to arrest Sri Lankan fishermen in her waters. This is poaching and cannot be condoned.

Similarly, Sri Lanka has a right to arrest Indian fisherman who are poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

The problem is that most of the poaching is done by Indian fisherman, and Indian authorities make a big fuss when their fisherman are arrested in Sri Lankan waters. Northern fisherman (read Tamil fisherman) in Sri Lanka are angry with the Sri Lankan government because they are doing nothing about it.

It's the Indian Tamil fisherman who are exploiting Sri Lankan waters as they wish.

We have a 48 day curfew not to fish as it is the breeding season and your fishermen steal the fish when we give them time to populate.
and your navy does not capture Indian fisher man, instead they use brutal and lethal force on poor fishermen, even some time restoring to firing with 30 mm canon at the indian fishermen boats. have you ever come across such atrocities committed by Indian Navy or the Cost Gaurds

The problem is that during the conflict Indian Tamil fisherman were happy to transport arms, ammunition and supplies to the Tamil Tigers. In other words, they were directly responsible for death and destruction in Sri Lanka.

They deserve to be shot for doing that, in my opinion.

Have you ever seen the sign "trespassers will be shot"? It's legal isn't it?

When Tamil Nadu hears of one of their fisherman killed, they should reflect on all those lives lost in Sri Lanka as a result of arms and ammunition from Tamil Nadu. They should reflect on all the lives ruined in Sri Lanka as a result of drugs smuggled in from Tamil Nadu.

But the problem here is the greediness of the Indian Tamil fisherman.

They have exhausted their fish stocks through unsustainable fishing and are now stealing what belongs to Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan fisherman.

This is not acceptable.

Tamil Nadu politicians cry and scream for Sri Lankan Tamils but are happy to let the livelihoods of Sri Lankan Tamil fisherman go down the drain as long as Indian Tamil fisherman are happy.

And the Sri Lankan government prefers to turn a blind eye to keep India happy.

That's the way the world is...

We both can play this blame game to any extent you wish. I am out a hear. Good Luck to you on killing my brothers in Tamil Nadu even after your war is over.
