Afghan Taliban wanted to meet me but Kabul protested: PM Imran

And you listened? Come on Khan sb we expect better from you. Kabul regime has no moral authority or the mandate, respecting that means we are on the wrong side of the fence.

Let there be no doubt that the only side friendly to us in Afg is the Taliban. and PM should not be too soft with muncipal corporation of kabul they are practically finished and taliban are there to stay.

I believe he is well-aware of their shortcomings (no authority, allowing R&AW to operate against us using their soil, allowing NDS to use TTP proxies, etc.) --- but perhaps this way he can leverage something in return (i.e. do XYZ or I'll have to meet the Afghan Taliban.)

I think they are beyond the point of providing any leverage to Pakistan. Lets not give this pathetic regime any moral legitimacy. Khan sab would be wise to now develop stronger links with the taliban so as to not let Indians get a foot hold in Afghanistan. The mayor of Kabul is now history.

Kabul protest about everything it seems - unless India is involve, very definition of a puppet govt! It has no legitimacy throughout Afghan country so it is not the sole representative.

Totally agree with your approach --- was just theorizing what the govt might be thinking. I always get this feeling that gents from the generation/era that usually makes up our govt / top brass are exceedingly forgiving, lenient and don't like to rock the boat too much.

What Pakistan needs to do is behave like a true nuclear power. Once our exports surge and foreign reserves improve, we have the power to truly re-calibrate global power balances.

Joke of government in Kabul has a problem with everything. They don't like the Afghan Taliban talking to Zalmay Khalizad. They have a problem with the peace talks held in Qatar. They have a problem with them talking to Khan. The only party that doesn't want peace in Afghanistan is its own illegitimate government and its supporters.

ISLAMABAD: The Afghanistan peace process which is backed by both the United States and Pakistan, has been focusing on putting an end to the 17-year war in Afghanistan.

The US and Taliban have drafted an exit plan for the departure of US forces from Afghanistan. Taliban has also negotiated not to use Afghan territories as a terrorist hub.

PM Imran Khan stated that it was acknowledged by the US that only Pakistan could bring the Taliban to negotiate and convey the message of stability and peace in Afghanistan.

Khan in a private meeting suggested an interim setup in Afghanistan. The setup is proposed to be a solution for the delay in the peace process talks.

The premier added that without a neutral interim government the peace process talks would not be effective. The interim government would also be able to hold unbiased elections to be participated by all the stakeholders. However, the duration for setting up the interim government was not specified by Imran Khan.

It was also claimed by Khan that due to rising objections by the Afghan government a scheduled meeting with the Taliban leadership was cancelled.

PM Khan also talked about the relations with other countries (UAE, China, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey) and how the bonds were excellent. He also included that Pakistan should be alert for any threat from India, until their elections are ongoing, concluding it by adding that there is still room for improvement with India.

here we are looking to establish peace in Afghanistan, and Afghan Govt is creating hurdles. But not ready to present any idea of peace deal between Taliban & US. If Taliban doesn't want to include current Afghan Govt in negotiation then what Pakistan can do about it? This Afghan Govt seriously disturbing the efforts of peace deal between Taliban & US.

It's better to side line with this negotiation & Let Afghan Govt deal with Taliban. Which will never happen in next 100 years, Because according to Taliban the current Afghan Govt is puppet.

What US is doing? Can't US tell Afghan Govt that don't do stupid things.

Afghanistan recalls ambassador in row over Pakistan PM remarks

It's remarks with suggestion & not a policy you uncivilized stupid Afghan Govt. Pakistan can only mediate with suggestion and can't dictate to any stackholder of Afghanistan.

The meeting should never have been cancelled. I dont understand why would you give importance to a dying regime? Its in our core interest to have a friendly and stable Afghanistan which is not used against Pakistan by India and Taliban are the only ones who can deliver on that.
