A 1 in 4 desertion rate and 3 in 4 rate of resignation within 1 year of active series says otherwise. ANA is a severely demoralized force. There is no bravery, lots of desertions and lots of collaboration with the enemy.

Totally agree, but some units have shown reasonable unit cohesion, and individual soldiers have shown bravery. But that does not an army good.

No Afghan section so will post here, this is a simplified version of a report -

Professional Opinion of Afghan National Army Through Observation

Pluses
1) Afghan soldiers are brave and tough
2) Good physical and mental endurance

Minuses
1) The majority of the enlisted men are illiterates. Meaning training, in any sort of weapon system or technical manual impossible.
2) The widespread use of narcotics amongst soldiers and officers.
3) AWOL is a unknown concept within the ANA.
4) The ANA does not have enough recruits from the areas, where they operate.
5) No institutional framework, the ANA does not have any traditions to fall back on.
6) Lack of professionalism - many times the chain of command is totally ignored.
7) Total reliance on ISAF and NATO for all logistical, CAS, Close fire support, supplies.
