What's new

70 years on, Bangladesh outperforms India, Pakistan

Yes and all major organisations like IMF, U.N. accept BD government data.
You are really pathetic dude and need to get a life.

They "accept" any country data idiot. North Korea, Yemen, Sudan, Niger....you name it.

What can be trusted verbatim and what can't be is another subject....and is definitely correlated to a country's corruption and institutional capability....both of which suffer immensely in BD.

No they do not.
North Korea is an estimate.
Try again.

PS - Even some economists in India do not trust Modi's GDP figures lol

Every published number at the UN or any such is an estimate. What are you talking about?

There are differing levels/qualities of estimate, its why for example BD gets its malnutrition claims flagged with an asterisk saying "pending re-analysis" at the WHO.....but that doesn't mean the ones that are not flagged suddenly aren't estimates either.

But how believable any figure is overall in the end is nowhere near absolute (or even somewhere near the relative half-way believable mark) when such a country suffers from terrible corruption and lack of institutional capacity, as marked by the CPI index and Cato institute among others.

This could be explained by the Natural Selection theory of Charles Darwin. Nature only preserves those who are racially and genetically superior to others and thus, would contribute to the evolution of their species. This is why despite Indians and Pakistanis having much larger per capita GDP (PPP) than Bangladeshis, live far fewer years than an average Bangladeshi because nature tends to support Bangladeshis more. Bangladesh has been recognized as the most vulnerable country to Climate Change but if you take a look at the casualties and losses in the natural disasters for the last few years, they are disproportionately higher in Inda and Pakistan than in Bangladesh. When dozens are dying in floods in Bangladesh, thousands are getting killed in heat waves in India and Pakistan.
Heil lungi-seige !

:blah:
As if anything coming out of India is any more credible!

Again India's is not absolutely credible either, but definitely lot more credible on relative scale. Check CPI and cato scores/ranking yourself. Whole magnitudes of percentile better than you lot. Pakistan pulling away from you big time on CPI too (because you are stuck and stagnant), you lot should be ashamed tbh given the stability you yourselves always brag about compared to Pakistan.

BD government is also lying about the 33 US billion dollar foreign reservere?

Russia is stupid to have leant BD almost 12 billion US dollars for the Roopur nuclear power plant as it will have no ability to pay this back since it is lying about growth rate?

We all know that BD, like most countries, has issues but this will lessen with time. Yes the government has a level of corruption and incompetence but this is not at all usual for a 3rd world country.

Rather than look at the bad things in BD let us look at the good things that are happening right now:

1. Padma Bridge being built
2. 2.4 GWRoopur nuclear power station being built
3. 1.3 GW Payra Coal Plant being built
4. Dhaka Metro rail being built
5. 1.2 GW Matarbari Coal Plant contract awarded to Japanese firm - financing already secured from JICA.

For a country the size of BD that is huge amount of projects that will be completed within the next 2-6 years. It is not an exaggeration to say that this will materially uplift the infrastructure of BD. With better infrastructure, this will make the economy more competitive and hence more foreign investments will flow in.

These figures (anything that can be cross - verified externally) have much higher credibility for any country. This includes forex, exports, imports and certain (esp external) markers for GDP overall too.

If BD published it has 50 billion USD in reserves, it would be exposed literally in seconds (if you know how and where forex is accumulated and accounted). Naturally no administration/bureaucracy, no matter how corrupt, even bothers to think about doing this.

But those statistics that cannot be cross-verified in any meaningful way are largely dependent and correlated to lack of corruption and institutional capacity of a country.

Again forex is one that simply cannot be lied about at all. You are barking up the wrong tree to make strawman argument. I am talking about such things as mortality, health, literacy, sanitation etc etc that simply do not have such readily available 3rd party cross-verification handy. They are purely dependent on the data a country surveys and analyses - hence why corruption and institutional capacity have a direct bearing on it. There are degrees within these as well, as far as which things are most easily compromised, which things are relatively secure (because of things like data domino effect sensitivity - in effect an internalized check and balance for such). It's why its a lot harder to inherently manipulate population census data compared to say sanitation coverage. Hence I largely do believe things like BD fertility rate, population growth rate etc are in the overall ballpark of reality compared to life expectancy, literacy etc (which have few "dominos" in front and behind them to cascade with any manipulation). That conversation does not even start in this forum, because apparently its antithetical to even mention it, its treated as affront to BD itself...everything claimed by BD govt must just be believed (esp if you are non-BD person, given it seems only BD people can criticize and get labelled into some x,y or z over time rather than create a fully transparent debate regardless of origin/bias)...this extends to topics like 1971 too.

Now if you have a foreign 3rd party source that actually surveys such information to appropriate confidence levels themselves (rather than accept BD BBS data verbatim), then I would like to see it (and willing to discuss those and even concede positions if they are thorough enough). Closest I have seen to that is the economist liveability index where they sampled few markers themselves...and lo and behold Dhaka gets ranked way worse on things like sanitation, infra, health etc compared to what BBS claims. This dissonance also there with the number of medical tourists that visit India each year from BD too.

But overall there is a real lack of interest in doing such (3rd party quality surveying on anything of note, be it production or social development) for BD, maybe over time there will be. But till there is, I stay pessimistic about any BD-origin data that have no external "footprint" to verify with. People have used BD NGOs in lieu of such to present a case regarding this, but again when I ask for what the sampling methodology and analysis was (rather than simple figure ticking etc)...the conversation chain ends there. It is what it is in this subforum.

want Bangladesh to prosper and achieve everything they want to achieve, meet some of the loves bengalis here in the UK.

But sheikh hessina is a an indian puppet having her strings pulled from New Delhi. Is this why you wanted to become independent Bangladesh so that your foreign policy be run from new Delhi

On Paper BD, seems like a Tiger but I'm reality it's not even a hyena.
On Data coming from BD Government is not valid and admissible until or unless it's not verified by an Independent source.
If you want to know what BD really is just, take your of Dhaka.
