Islamabad, April 28 (IANS) At least 33 militants were killed Thursday by security forces and pro-government militia in the tribal areas of northwest Pakistan, media reports said.
Six militants were killed in a clash with pro-government tribes in the Kurram agency, one of the seven tribal regions bordering Afghanistan, Xinhua reported citing local media.
After the clash, security forces launched an offensive on the militants in Kurram agency and neighbouring Orakzai agency.
Helicopters bombarded militant hideouts that led to the death of at least 27 people.
Security forces have intensified operation in the tribal areas in the last two months, officials said.

Excellent news! Another heartening aspect of this news is that the security forces & the pro-government militia worked together to get rid of the scum terrorists.

I don't know what the truth about this report and insurgency is anymore -- after all, just how many insurgents are there?? I mean just go and review the dedicated sticky threads, and you may soon realize that something is very very wrong in the Pakistan understanding of this insurgency --- Just how vast is this insurgency that there seems no end to the number of insurgents -- how is it that Pakistan have been unable to locate and eliminate the sources of funding and unable (unwilling?) to locate and eliminate the sources through which arms are being procured??

Just go through the threads, 50 here, 30 there, 20 here and 12 there, And Kurram (should be written "Khurram"?) isn't that big, actually it's pretty small.

Unfortunately, the infiltration into Pakistan's tribal agencies from Afghanistan accounts for the rising number of insurgents.

Lets not be trapped in the kinds of traps our US "friends" have created for themselves --- Infiltration from Afghanistan? Sure, but is there some unlimited supply there?

And after all these years, still that particular area has not been plugged up - oh yes, forbidding terrain

And After all these years, no dent in the funding of these Talib?

And presumably there is an unending supply of weapons and ammunition and explosives in Kunar and Nuristan?

Friends, we must learn from the mistakes of the US, we must not lie to ourselves.

Unfortunately yes, the US has deliberately not started operations in Kunar, Nuristan & Khost; the extreme strongholds of the terrorists, as they serve as a deterrence to Pakistan. These three Afghan provinces are the safe havens for these terrorists. It has been proven that Qari Zia Rehman from the TTP operates from Kunar, & conducts operations in Pakistan's adjacent Mohmand & Bajaur Agencies. Just recently from Nuristan, terrorists infiltrated into Lower Dir & killed Pakistani troops. Khost serves as a safe haven & refuge for Hakeemullah Mehsud to operate into North & South Waziristan. These are all established facts, & if Afghanistan doesn't do anything about these safe havens in their country, & the infiltration from them into Pakistan, the number of terrorists in Pakistan will not be decreasing.

And where do the insurgents in Afghanistan come from? Muse is right, only a fool will believe that Afghanistan is actually able to not only train insurgents of both Pak-Afghanistan in Afghanistan, but also actually arm these insurgents. Most of the insurgents in tribal areas of Pakistan are from those tribal areas themselves and like Muse said, don't fool yourself to believe all the problem in those areas is being pushed by your neighbours. I by the way always thought Afghan Taliban in here were seen as 'freedom fighters', now why would a freedom fighter go to Pak tribal areas if he can get into north of Afghanistan as easily.......?

Close down the safe havens in Kunar, Nuristan & Khost then if you want to solve problems. Why has the Karzai government never responded positively when Pakistan wants to fence the border? Why does the Karzai government declare the Durand Line "invalid"?

You're right, that's what you've thought. No one in their right mind would call them 'freedom fighters'. However, you give refuge to Qari Zia Rehman & Hakeemullah Mehsud in your safe havens & they are not part of the Afghan Taliban.

Same could be said about Waziristan, Bajjaur, Mohmand, etcetera. Remember where most Taliban fled to right after US invasion of Afghanistan?

Why has the Karzai government never responded positively when Pakistan wants to fence the border?
Why do you rely on a man whose own countrymen don't rely on? Pakistan isn't occupied, Pak government isn't formed by foreigners, Pak army is one of the strongest out there. With all this in mind, what's stopping Pak government? Or shall I ask, does the government GENUINELY want to fence the borders?

Why does the Karzai government declare the Durand Line "invalid"?
It's not just Karzai, this issue has been going on for decades now which is why still both countries have found their excuse to blame their neighbours. In name of 'interference', that is.

No one in their right mind would call them 'freedom fighters'.
Trust me, enough Pakistanis believe so......

However, you give refuge to Qari Zia Rehman & Hakeemullah Mehsud in your safe havens & they are not part of the Afghan Taliban.
Rehman operates as much in Afghanistan as he is in Pak tribal areas, and Mehsud was only 'believed' to be in Afghanistan while it has never been confirmed by any side where he precisely is.
