Two supporters of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) sustained bullet injuries after unknown criminals fired indiscriminately on the people taking part in a human chain at Laxmichhari upazila of Khagrachhari Tuesday.

UPDF formed the human chain in Shilachhari area of the upazila to protest against the government move of mentioning different ethnic communities of the country as Bangalee in the bill of fifteenth amendment to the constitution.

Shimul Chakma, 17, and Newton Bikash Chakma, 22, came under attack at about 12:30pm at the human chain, said Kamrul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Laxmichhari Police Station.

“The shooting incident is the result of UPDF's internal clash”, the OC said.

On the other hand, Niron Chakma, press secretary of UPDF, claimed that followers of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti attacked on their activists.

Shimul was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while Newton denied admission to hospitals.

Later in the day, UPDF in a press release declared a two-day road and waterway blockade programme from July 20 in Khagrachhari and Rangamati districts on the same issue.

Meanwhile, Pahari Chhatra Parishad, a student wing of UPDF, called a strike on July 14 in Khagrachhari, Bandarban and Rangamati hill districts.

It is interesting that the OC feels that the shooting was because of 'internal clash'.

What could be the internal clash over a human chain?

Minorities are well looked after in Bangladesh!

They care so much that there is no posts and hardly any views (which will include non Bangaldeshis too!)

still no concern about the minorities to be explained from the stalwarts of BD especially from the Jamaatii variety?

There are two groups UPDF and PCJSS.

Govt recognized both of them but they dont recognize each other. One ask other to be banned.:undecided:

UPDF did not accept peace treaty. Still govt try to listen to them. And none of them challenge govt authority neither they attack any Bengalis or govt installation there.

Thank you.
