130,000 accident deaths annually in India

All should wear helmets.

Helmets, steel toed shoes, gloves, plated knee and elbow pads. And those who wish to can wear Kevlar vests and pants. These accidents can give a huge boost to the safety apparel business. I have a friend in India who has a business making safety gear for bikers in India. I'm gonna increase my investment with him.
Benny (SpArk), can you tell me how good are bikers helmets in India?

best would be lets just not get out of homes...imagine we step out of our home and an ant is killed.....that will add to the numbers of accident deaths and our neghbours wil open a thread on that....lol.

ISI (indian standard institution) mark is mandatory for helmets but yet street vendors sell cheap one with forged marks . They are not effective. There are indeed some good brand ones. But people esp youngsters go for trendy ones which are sometimes less effective in case of an accident.

Nobody is talking about the flawed licencing authorities.. We all know its still easy to get a fake drivers licence.

It is not airbags which will save these idiots - simply because the cars are not traveling at high enough speeds for airbags to be deployed. Driving in India is pathetic and to be honest I generally hate it in India because of utter lack of traffic sense, civic sense and social norms. People drive on the wrong lane to overtake, the condition of the roads can charitably be called abysmal, those 3 and 2 wheelers are death traps, drunken driving is rampant, there are beggars on the road who think they have right of way in the middle of the national highway, traffic authorities issue licenses without taking proper driving tests...

Don't tell me that F-16_Falcon is counting up the ant deaths in India? That seems unlikely; he is a nice guy!

the thing is that most accidents happen around the evening time between 6- 9 ... i think it has to do with the attitude of people.

One should note that most deaths are on the highways... where having an airbag will help prevent fatalities. Several factors do contribute to multiple deaths on our highways and most can be attributed to road sense. People don't give enough respect to the roads and to their fellowmen sharing the roads... every single person driving thinks he is the king of the road...

I remember one specific case from last year where a Tata Magic (being used as a passenger vehicle with 8-10 people sitting) was cutting across lanes and overtaking the heavy trucks and other vehicles while giving a smile to others indicative of a victory.... god forbid an accident happens, not just his life, but rest of the people sitting in his vehicle is lost.
